The Classic era of Cartoon Network

Most of you might recognize this logo. Yes the oldest cartoon network logo. The channel most of us grew up watching. I do miss the old times. Classic cartoon network was a legendary era. We often hear “change for the better” well this one changed for the worse. “Indianization” of the channel was probably the worst idea. Cartoon characters speaking Hindi was when I decided that this channel had died a painful death in India. There were many good shows during my childhood. Some of my favorites shows were

1)Swat Kats

Ah T-Bone,Razor and the Turbokat. The perfect awesomeness combination ever created. Two cats taking on bad guys ranging from dark kat to the Pastmaster. A brilliant intro song too! The various types of missiles in the Turbokat was just insanely cool! Man this show rocked to the core.

2)Johnny Bravo

Oohh, Mama! The guy with a whacky coif and ripping biceps always failed spectacularly in his attempts to woo women. Every episode involved him getting thrashed by women and it was hilarious. Of course his trademark catch phrases were the highlight of the show and his super fast hair combing techniques!

3)The Centurions

Oh yeah still feels good yelling “Power extreme”. The one thing I really loved about this show was their suits. The way the weapons just fitted into them was amazing. The wide variety of armory was a treat to watch. Land, sea, air  centurions thrashing enemies with their hi-tech weapon system was just too devastatingly supreme.

4)Ninja Robots

Originally Japanese (yes they do create some wickedly awesome anime) this show was aired as Ninja robots on C/N.

Remember those line

“Joe Maya” Age : 16 Status : Fugitive. He is the commander of the ninja robots. I still recall these lines. Some shows do have that extra “punch” factor which tends to leave a deep impression in your mind. This one was definitely one of the best shows ever.

5)Dexter’s Laboratory

Everybody remembers the little smarty pants Dexter and his annoying sister Dee Dee. His sophisticated inventions were the highlight of the show. Dee Dee destroying every thing he builds and the best part

OOO what does this button do?”" Dee dee, do not press the button!”

and how can one forget the episode

“Omelette du fromage”

These shows were classics!

  2. awesome……..i just can’t imagine what these kids see in the present day anime’s like ben 10 and shinchan. Arey they’ll never get to know the subtle humour and class of Flintstones, Scooby, Jetson……I can make such a long list! Cartoon network is seriously dead to me after the below par Indianized series – we need good animators with good stories. Period.
